Mizuko Ito is a cultural anthropologist at the University of Southern California and Keio University, specializing in studies of media technology use. Currently, her work focuses on Japanese technoculture, including children's media mixes and youth mobile phone use. She is co-editing a book on Japanese mobile phone use entitled "Personal, Portable, Pedestrian: Mobile Phones in Japanese Life.” She has conducted research on Internet communities, with children in computer clubs, online gaming sites, and a variety of corporate contexts.
