Bioinformatics.org is an Internet-based organization focused on bioinformatics ethical issues pertaining to scientists. Of particular interest, is the need for more freedom and openness, to which the organization's community has responded by providing free and open resources for research, development and education. Bioinformatics.Org was established in 1998 at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and is non-profit. The community now includes more than 1,500 members and almost four dozen bioinformatics resources and projects. A quick history of bioinformatics, the organization's place in it, plus an overview of key projects and resources will be discussed.
