Genomic Data Platform: RGD Data Curation System

Lu reviews the release of the first version of the NIH funded integrated database as the Rat Genome Database (RGD) in June 2000. RGD is conducting the collaboration of the rat genomic research community in creating integrated data repositories. This work has resulted in a review of international rat genomic data sources, extensive discussions of focused gene, strain and related data curation, and in the formation of a collaboration to create and maintain integrated rat genome databases. RGD data curation system has been designed by using Universal Modeling Language (UML) to have an integrated, platform-cross, multi-layers environment that would conduct RGD curation activities and load the clean genomic data into RGD. The major components are the data management, bulk data loading, data submission, and data editor. The whole system works together to feature data editing, data tracking, data management, data reporting, security, high-throughput, efficiency, web access interfaces. The technologies involved are BioPerl, Java, JSP. The database is Oracle 8i, and the development software is Rational Rose, Oracle 9i JDeveloper.
