Accelerate your code using the PowerPC G4 Velocity Engine.
Apple/Genentech BLAST set new standards for high performance computing through its use of the PowerPC G4 "Velocity Engine" vectorization unit (aka AltiVec), which provide over five times the performance of non-accelerated code. Since then those same techniques have been used to optimize HMMer, FastA, Smith-Waterman, Gromacs, and other critical bioinformatics applications. Now vectorization experts from Apple will show how you can obtain similar improvements using the new tools available in Mac OS X v10.2 "Jaguar." Topics include an architectural overview of the Velocity Engine, demonstrations of Apple's development and profiling tools, examples of accelerated applications, as well as common tips & tricks.
