Bridging the Gap Between Researchers and Information with XML and Web Services

Track: Birds of a Feather
Date: Monday, February 03
Time: 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Location: Plaza

Session Facilitators: - Alex Tolley, Software Development Manager, Computational Sciences, Iconix Pharmaceuticals - Michael Peachey, Co-founder, Versalent, Inc.

From bioinformatics to clinical trials, drug discovery depends on optimizing vast amounts of information that often reside in disparate locations, places and formats. ‘Web services’ is gaining ground as an open standards solution to sharing information more easily and rapidly between systems, applications, users, and organizations.

Many have talked about the potential of webservices infrastructure for distributed computing and exchange of data amongst disparate systems but few have focused on how such information ultimately is presented to the researcher at his/her desktop and how scientists along the continuum will interact with the infrastructure. This session will bring together experts and interested parties to explore how companies today are connecting all scientists to webservices, eliminating complex application integration, and increasing researcher discovery productivity at the point of the desktop.
