During the past several years many graduate and professional certificate programs have been developed at several universities and colleges. In addition, online classes are becoming increasingly available. This talk presents a view "from the trenches" on the practical and technical challenges of establishing a curriculum, compiling course content, and teaching bioinformatics to a post-baccalaureate audience. We will discuss suitable content for a student population with distinct educational background and diverse but often specific interests. The presentation will also address the technical needs of a bioinformatics teaching lab and possible location independent alternatives.
