Building your own Bioinformatics Supercomputer for Cheap Using Grid Technology Bill Day, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Doris Chen, Ph.D., Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Track: System Administration and Infrastructure Date: Wednesday, February 05 Time: 4:00pm - 4:45pm Location: Plaza
This session will quickly review what grid computing is and how grids can be used to provide a relatively inexpensive environment for computer intensive tasks before diving into the meat of the matter, a how-to on setting up your own grid. We will detail the steps necessary to set up a biogrid using the open source Grid Engine and the freely available Sun ONE Grid Engine which builds upon it. We may also discuss several example applications of Grid Engine technology in bioinformatics as time allows.
