Rapid Application Development in Bioinformatics using Applescript Studio

Track: Birds of a Feather
Date: Wednesday, February 05
Time: 8:00pm - 9:00pm
Location: Harbor B

AppleScript Studio is a component of the programming environment provided in Apple's MacOSX . We have used it in our laboratory to rapidly develop full GUI tools on top of traditionally commandline tools and scripts, to enable bench scientists to use those tools with minimal programming, and easy deployment. However, AppleScript Studio has its own learning curve, and does not have a large community of programmers to share tips and tricks with. We hope to share some of the ways we have used this free (to MacOSX installations) environment to solve problems. Although the technology is Apple-specific, since it can take control of Unix-based technology, it may be of interest to people developing GUI toolkits for other platforms.
