Session
The E Development Platform: Exploiting Virus-Ridden Software
Marc Stiegler, consultant/author
Mark Miller
Track: Distributed
Date: Tuesday, May 14
Time: 11:15am - 12:00pm
Location: Stevens Creek
Marc Stiegler begins this session with a demonstration of a capability secure desktop, which uses no passwords, no user group lists, no mysterious certificates, yet supplies a computing world invulnerable to viruses and trojans. He activates a web browser with malicious components and compares the results of the attack to a side-by-side attack on a Winix (Windows or Unix, it makes no difference) desktop using the same code. Stiegler demonstrates the use of caplets, which deliver on the promises first made by java applets and lastly, will discuss the principle of least authority, capability security, and the E computing platform that make a virus-free future possible.
