Session
XML, Web Services, and the Semantic Wipeout
Clay Shirky, Decentralization Writer/Consultant, shirky.com
Track: Distributed
Date: Thursday, May 16
Time: 10:30am - 11:15am
Location: Stevens Creek
Real-world examples of Web service successes and failures demonstrate that the limiting case for Web Services has nothing to do with technology and everything to do with semantics: it works well in areas with well-understood transactional definitions between parties (e.g. intranets), and badly where there are a large number of anonymous actors (e.g. the Internet).
