Session
Wireless Community Networks: To be one, BE ONE.
Rob Flickenger
Track: Untethered
Date: Thursday, May 16
Time: 2:45pm - 3:30pm
Location: Lawrence
The Wireless Community Networking phemonemon is changing the way that people get connected. Rather than an ISP fee-based access model, people in more than 20 countries are volunteering their time and equipment to build public access networks. By using inexpensive off-the-shelf hardware, volunteers are building high performance broadband networks for very little cost. The session covers getting involved in a local community project, the logistics of running an open wireless node, some of the technology involved, and where this whole experiment is going.
