Tutorial
Creating and Consuming Web Services with .NET and OS X
Brian Jepson, Editor, O'Reilly Media, Inc.
James Duncan Davidson, Author and software developer, http://x180.net/
Track: Emerging Technology Tutorial
Date: Monday, May 13
Time: 1:15pm - 4:45pm
Location: Stevens Creek
Web Services unchain your application logic from the confines of the browser
and allow you to develop native applications that consume your web service.
There are two parts to every web service: the web service itself and its
consumers (clients). In this tutorial, Brain Jepson develops an example web service
on a .NET server. The web service will use ADO.NET to tap into a SQL Server
database and expose methods for querying and updating the database. We will
then develop a client side consumer for the web service on Mac OS X using a
combination of Java, AppleScript, and Cocoa technologies.
