Searching Unstructured Data - Is Google the Best We Can Do?

Track: BOF
Date: Monday, May 13
Time: 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Location: Winchester

This BOF was held on Monday night.

Moderated by: Maciej Ceglowski, Center for Educational Technology

Unstructured data is growing at a phenomenal rate, and our search methods are not keeping up. Keyword searches aren't powerful enough to mine the data mountain. People talk a lot about the semantic web, but is there a way to get there without having to do markup on billions of online documents? The presenter has been working lately on latent semantic search engines, and would love to hear about other computational or AI approaches that look promising - support vector machines, natural language parsers, whatever else is up your sleeve. Also interested in getting access to large collections to experiment with these techinques.
