Mailing lists are the core social network tool of the internet. The vast majority of open technical work, including standards, are discussed and agreed upon within lists. Until now, however, mailing lists have remained purely human.
By incorporating Mailing List Bots into our lists, we can take advantage of external resources: web services like Google and Amazon, voting systems, reputation systems, URL recorders, RSS generators, notification systems, Godwin Detectors - the list is long and full of potential.
This talk explores Mailing List Bot architecture, and the social ramifications of running a bot on a list. Source code will be available.
