This presentation will explain the nuts and bolts of building the Internet Archive's Digital Bookmobile: a Ford Aerostar with a satellite dish on top, a wireless network, laptops, a printer, a bookbinding machine, and an internet connection to over 9,000 public domain books online.
We will discuss both the hardware and software of the bookmobile, the trip across country to the Eldred Supreme Court Argument in Washington D.C. and show home movies from the trip.
We will outline a plan to spread the distributed print-on-demand technology and suggest roles that technologists, educators and librarians can play.
The presentation will close by inviting the audience to see the bookmobile in action in the parking lot after the talk, and make themselves a book, if they wish.
