Any Time, Anywhere: High Speed Cellular Data Technology Overview

High data rate cellular communications are on the verge of mass deployment. The latest generation of equipment, also known as 3G, promises multi-megabit forward and reverse link bandwidths to mobile users.

Gilmore provides an overview of the cellular communications space, starting with what is available today for cellular data services, and diving into the various technology options in the near and far future. He also relates some of the latest technological and product advancements in the area, perhaps including a preview of technologies currently available overseas that may eventually find their way to the US.

The final aspect of this talk addresses some of the market challenges facing cellular data providers in the face of alternative technologies, such as WiFi hotspots and metro area network infrastructure.
