SessionMaking Online Communities Productive
Jay Campbell, Director, Santa Cruz Tech
Site visitors can be more than eyeballs and banner ad impressions. With
tools and motivation, communities can add significant value to the sites
that house them. Some sites like Flicker and Wikipedia depend entirely
on work done by its users for the public good. Conventional sites tap
into their communities only for feedback and the occasional public poll.
Others find that the value their visitors create outshine the work of
the original site authors.
In this session we will examine the motivators for "microworkers", demonstrate methods for converting web site visits into tangible value, and explore how the distributed workforce model could help reshape the business landscape. |
