SessionHack Your Own Conference: the World Summit on Free Information Infrastructures
Jo Walsh, Programmer, -
Wsfii.London was the bootstrap conference for a series of larger gatherings around Free Information Infrastructures that will happen in India throughout 2006. We crossed six streams of ideas: Open Hardware, Free Networks, Free Culture, Open Geodata, Open Civic Information, and Community Currencies.
We organized the main conference weekend along with Saul Albert of dorkbot. In this session, we'll explain some of the reasons why we chose to bring these people, topics, and projects together at this point in space and time, and the highlights of the results. We'll illustrate organizing stances and techniques that helped us to create a conference in fairly short notice, on minimum budget, while actually having fun doing it: the Tao of organizing without trying. We hope to inspire you to hack your own conference wherever you are. |
