Although we've been using high-end computer graphics in the visual effects industry for about 20 years, this technology is really poised to infiltrate our daily life in a much greater fashion. We'll take a look at examples of the state-of-the-art in some current big-budget films and then discuss how these same things are, or will soon, become available in everything from home movies to videoconferencing.
This talk will primarily focus on "dissecting" some of these well-known examples to explain the art and science behind their creation -- what techniques were used during the principle photography, and how did the post-production process allow the final result to come together. We'll also take time throughout to extrapolate about where this applies to situations in everyday life, how you should pretty much assume that ANY imagery you see could have been manipulated or modified, and whether or not this is a problem.
