Session

The Numenta Platform for Intelligent Computing

Jeff Hawkins
Subutai Ahmad

Date: Tuesday, March 27
Time: 2:15pm - 3:00pm
Location: Douglas C

Numenta is creating a new technology and software platform based on the theory of hierarchical temporal memory (HTM). HTM theory has its origins in a theory of neo-cortex developed by Jeff Hawkins and described in his book entitled On Intelligence. The Numenta Platform for Intelligent Computing (NuPIC) is a set of tools, including embedded learning algorithms and an optimized runtime engine, that enables self-training and pattern recognition based on the theories of HTM.

A "research release" of NuPIC will be available in March, and enable developers to learn and experiment with HTM applications. This session, a follow-up from Jeff Hawkins' keynote speech, will focus on describing the algorithms and Python-based software platform. He will describe some of the concepts behind the learning algorithms, provide an overview of the software, and show some demonstrations using image-recognition as an example.
