A Manifesto for Web Innovation?

Mike Shaver, Director of Ecosystem Development, Mozilla Corporation

Track: Products & Services
Date: Wednesday, March 28
Time: 3:05pm - 3:50pm
Location: Gallery

Mozilla has recently circulated a draft of the Mozilla Manifesto, laying out principles and a pledge that describe the Web that Mozilla hopes to build, and how it will conduct itself in pursuit of that balmy Internet future. There has been much discussion of the social, political, and commercial implications of the Manifesto, but this document must also lead to concrete technical results if Mozilla is to achieve its mission.

How can the principles of the Manifesto promote continuing growth and experimentation (successful or otherwise) on the Web? Does Mozilla's pledge reinforce the factors required to sustain and enhance the current climate of "web renaissance?" Mike Shaver, a Mozilla cofounder who has recently pled "no contest" on multiple counts of developer meddling and API trafficking, will present his and Mozilla's perspectives on these and related questions, and is eager to hear the thoughts of attendees as well.
