CALEA - Wiretapping VoIP and Keeping Garage Innovators Down

Brad Templeton, Chairman, Electronic Frontier Foundation

Date: Thursday, January 26
Time: 11:45am - 12:00pm
Location: Salon ABCDE

The FCC has expanded the CALEA law to mandate that VoIP software coders include wiretapping facilities, and it looks like there are plans for general wiretapping of other internet applications. In addition, they're mandating E911 calling provisions from such providers at an alarming pace. The EFF, along with like-minded organizations, are suing to stop it--what's going on there and what can be done? What is the law, what are the issues, and why is it all horribly wrong? What does it mean for the small garage innovator? Templeton gives a primer for the product managers, developers, and entrepreneurs in our audience.
