BOF
Building Location Aware Voice Applications
Track: BOF
Date: Tuesday, January 24
Time: 7:30pm
- 9:00pm
Location: Salon A
Moderated by Chris Ngan, co-founder of Aeria LLC, and John Yau
Applications that account for real-world factors through geographic and situational inference are known collectively as location-aware applications. Various attempts at location aware applications have been limited to trivial applications such as chat. This BoF event will be the first of two events that will demonstrate the ease with which chat, voice, and video location-aware applications can be built.
-
This session will:
- Establish the framework upon which location aware applications can be built.
- Demonstrate a range of chat and voice location-aware applications.
- Offer two parallel in-depth case studies and demonstrations of how a restaurant and a large-retailer can benefit from chat and voice location-aware applications.
The last five years have witnessed an increasingly useful and humanized face to online applications as software engineers utilized real/non-virtual world characteristics such as collective intelligence and social interactions. Unfortunately, the non-virtual world has not benefited significantly from the advantages of the online world as a result of inadequate network capabilities in the mobile world in which we live. With a mesh technology that supports stable network connectivity in highly mobile environments, the foundation is set for the development of real-world networked applications. Furthermore, location awareness is an inherent property of the mesh network, and is therefore the ideal platform for bringing the benefits of the virtual-world to the real-world.
The sessions are interactive and users are encouraged to bring network-enabled devices with which to use the demonstrated location-aware social and commercial applications
