Track: BOF
Date: Wednesday, January 25
Time: 9:00pm - 10:00pm
Location: Salon D

Moderated by Mike Liebhold, Andrea Saveri, and Howard Rheingold,Institute for the Future

The following technologies promise to have enormous impacts, and promise to become the foundation for an open, location based mobile web:

  • Mesh networks
  • VOIP and Video over IP
  • Location and context-aware services
  • Mobile Commerce

We'd like to start a process to begin exploring the potentials for cooperative platforms for an open mobile IP web, particularly focused on constructive models for network service operators who struggling to understand how to -control- these phenomena.

We'll begin a dialog on new service models for opening their networks up for innovative 'edge' developments by creative end users and entrepreneurs that would drive demand for a broad range of IP services beyond limited currently limited walled gardens of 'enhanced services. Our working hypotheses is that a 'rising tide will lift all boats'.
