Session

Tapping in to the Open Source for Innovation

Benoit Schillings, Trolltech

Date: Wednesday, February 28
Time: 1:30pm - 1:45pm
Location: Salon ABCDE

By adopting an open source software model, device creators and telecom service providers can concentrate on the aspects of their product/service that truly differentiate it from the others. However, while the benefits of Linux as a product are clear, you also have to accept Linux as a process. This talk will discuss how the real advantages of time-tested, widely distributed open source software can't be anticipated and planned, they have to be allowed to evolve and in doing so, the true benefits will be borne. Qtopia Greenphone and other emerging open mobile phones will be discussed as examples of paving the way for open source innovation to emerge.
