PCs are too expensive and unwieldy for general use by rural Indian farmers. Microsoft Research India has come up with an SMS server that may provide the cheapest and fastest computing system for effective rural use. It needs nothing more than a commodity PC and a Smart Phone to create a server that can be accessed by anyone with an SMS capable phone. Will these phone servers take the place of small business servers in India? Could this learning be applied to mobile information systems in the west? Come find out.
