The mobile industry has a very poor batting average in creating new data products. For every Treo or BlackBerry, there are dozens of failed smartphones. Major initiatives such as WAP and MVNOs often end in disappointment. The industry's problems with mobile data can be traced to a failure to understand the needs and desires of mobile users. Data solutions that focus on technology, rather than actual user needs, almost always fail. This discussion will explore the actual data needs of mobile users and the segmentation of the mobile data market.
