Whether a business relates to open source software as a developer or user, a licensor or licensee, or often as both, the business faces numerous legal questions with respect to the intersection between open source and closed source software and between different types of open source licenses.

This session will give introductory answers and cover such topics as:

• differences between academic and reciprocal licenses, in particular with respect to copyleft,
• the new GPL version 3,
• dual licensing,
• distribution of combined software packages,
• ASP,
• liability for open source software, and
• patents and trademarks issues

The perspective will change throughout the workshop between those of the developer, the vendor/integrator, and the user of open source software.
