MetaCarta Labs builds tools to help people make better use of geographic information. We will start by presenting OpenLayers, an open source JavaScript library for building rich map applications on the Web. We will present our new GeoParser API, a web service that extracts geographic information from unstructured text, and discuss the possible uses for such an API, demonstrating a sample application that uses the API to make interactive maps of classic works of literature.
