Károly Négyesi
Track: PHP
Date: Tuesday, 18 October 2005
Time: 10:45 - 11:30
Location: St. John's Room I
Drupal is among the cleanest and most extensible Web Application Frameworks for PHP4 and PHP5. It has well defined points of extension and a highly optimized page serving mechanism. The talk will be a programmer's tour of the Drupal API. The main attractions are:
Modules, the building blocks of Drupal
Hooks, the cement of Drupal
The thin database layer which also serves as a cornerstone for security in Drupal
The menu system, Drupal's Grand Central Station of Drupal. Incoming requests are bound to handler functions
The theme system which makes Drupal look good
Nodes, the root of Drupal's data object model
The taxonomy/category API which allows users and developers to bring order to content. Handles everything from free-tagging to simple lists to n:m webs of relationships
