Session
Scratching the Five Year Itch
Matthew Langham, Technical Director, S&N AG
Track: Business
Date: Wednesday, 19 October 2005
Time: 13:30 - 14:15
Location: St. John's Room I
Langham has been evangelizing open source to European corporations since 2000, the year he established an open source group inside a commercial German software company. Langham will talk about how the "problems" of commercial open source adoption have changed in the last five years and how the open source business models have changed. He will detail many of the mistakes made by many commercial organizations when trying to "get" open source. In order to dispel some of the myths around open source development, Langham will outline the structure of open source organizations and projects using the Apache Software Foundation as an example. He hopes to convince commercial attendees to the conference that there is more to open source than just "free" software.
