Session
Building Berkeley DB XML from Open Source Components
Gregory Burd, Product Manager, Sleepycat Software
Track: Databases
Date: Thursday, 20 October 2005
Time: 11:35 - 12:20
Location: Foyer Room
Berkeley DB XML, an embeddable XML database engine, was assembled from a number of high-quality open source components, including Berkeley DB, Pathan, Xerces, and an XQuery processing engine. In this talk, we will describe the overall architecture of Berkeley DB XML. We will concentrate on the challenges we confronted when we integrated these various independent pieces into a single coherent offering. We'll also discuss the places in which we see XML databases being used, and describe the common requirements of applications that rely on them.
