Keynote eLearning Strategies based on F/LOSS- Extremadura Region Luis Casas Luengo Track: Keynote Date: Thursday, 20 October 2005 Time: 9:45 - 10:00 Location: Grand Ballroom Extremadura launched its regional strategy on IS in 1998. In 2002 the government launched the gnuLinEx project. gnuLinEx intended to sustain the programmes and projects implemented during these four year (digital literacy, business, eGov). Today Extremadura completes the ratio of 1PC per two students in the educational system: more than 70.000 PC running with GnuLinEx. A distribution designed for the regional educational system, is today a model for the migration of the eHealth system to gnuLinEx, and in the beginning of 2005 a migration plan for all the government has been launched. The project has allowed also to create a new local market on software services. GnuLinEx demonstrates the viability of mainstreaming policies of transition to Information Society based on F/LOOS.
