Session
Firefox: Mainstreaming Open Source
Ben Goodger
Track: Linux
Date: Wednesday, 19 October 2005
Time: 11:35 - 12:20
Location: Grand Ballroom
This presentation focuses on some of the challenges faced when
productizing a complex open source software project for the mass
market. Ben will discuss Firefox's successes and failures, including
key changes in development for Firefox 1.5 to address lessons learned
from the release of Firefox 1.0. He will cover the browser's
technology platform, several key features, and critical
non-engineering aspects of the project including product management
and marketing. Ben will talk about the future of Firefox development
and propose a framework that other Open Source projects can use to
maximize their success with users and the consumer market.
