There is a vast array of open-source Unix software which can easily be
brought to the Mac OS X platform. The interdependent nature of many of these projects can best be managed through a coherent distribution such as Fink. The Fink project uses Debian tools to install and uninstall software, manage
dependencies, keep track of versions, and so on.
David Morrison introduces the audience to this tool by following a simple example in detail, from the initial download of the source file, through simple
modifications needed to port the software to Mac OS X, and then through the process of integrating it into the Fink system through the creation of a Fink package.
