From Unix to Aqua: Porting Large Unix Applications to Mac OS X
Ed Peterlin, BIOPAC Systems, Inc.
Track: Unix
Date: Thursday, October 03
Time: 10:45am - 11:30am
Location: Stevens Creek
Following OpenOffice.org as a historical example and a work in progress,
Peterlin shares insights into the process of taking large Unix applications,
migrating them to Mac OS X, and finally adapting them to use Mac OS X
specific technologies and guidelines. Explore technical and
non-technical aspects of what it takes to make that large Unix
behemoth into a good Mac OS X citizen. The various pitfalls
encountered for OpenOffice.org will be examined as well as the
choices made to solve them, and what can still be done to make the
process more efficient.
