In this tutorial, users will learn how to build an AppleScript Studio Application in Project Builder, create a simple interface with Interface Builder and connect it to an AppleScript Studio application, use AppleScript to interface with command line tools, and perform various Mac OS X setup tasks for users in a managed network environment.
Information covered in this tutorial include background info, the solution (a quick overview of the program), writing the code, a look at configuration details for the final product, building and debugging, creating a startup item, and creating an installer.
Jorgensen notes that one of the most interesting aspects of his presentation is that "The core of this setup utility is based on two command line programs that come with Mac OS X. These utilities would be useful on the desktop but Apple hasn't made them available. Through a simple hack they can be made to work on Mac OS X Desktop. Attendees will come away with an understanding of how to tie AppleScript studio to command line utilities to accomplish interactive tasks normally done from the command line only."
