Backup and recovery is an important part of systems administration, but implementing it successfully under OS X has always been a topic of confusion, much discussion, and a challenge to properly implement for many sites. This session will cover practical backup and recovery options and strategies for Mac OS X environments of various sizes, from the single user to distributed networks. Commercial and freely available solutions will be discussed along with their strengths and weaknesses. We'll cover basic concepts in disaster recovery and data availability, and how to implement good backup practices and policies for your site. Most importantly the talk will demonstrate how to recover an OS X system from the cold bare metal, a system without any OS previously installed.
