The Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) is a powerful, but complicated, architecture for creating enterprise applications. Fortunately, the Open Source community offers several technologies that simplify the development and deployment of J2EE applications.
Find out what Apple is doing in this area and how Apple's Xcode--as well as Ant, XDoclet, Struts, and JBoss--can be used as an end-to-end system to develop, test, and deploy enterprise applications. Fraser gives an overview of these technologies and shows you how to get started with them on your Mac to build multi-tiered J2EE applications using advanced techniques such as Attribute Oriented Programming and Container Managed Persistence.
