Perl/Python/PHP all have some common idioms for interacting with a database and performing CRUD(Create/Read/Update/Delete) operations. However there hasn't been much effort in sharing experience and congealing it into patterns, across the 'P' languages.
Using 'list of lists' and 'list of dictionaries' as the representations of result sets, a number of development patterns can be dissected and some specific techniques can be examined such as paged result-sets and application to master-detail relationships in web applications.
Time permitting we may look at optimistic locking, pessimistic locking and compensation transactions.
This is meant to be the start of a longer term industry effort to create 'LAMP best practices and patterns' for database applications.
