Experienced Oracle developers with strong skills in SQL, PL/SQL, and knowledge of general database design and administration will benefit greatly from this introduction session, and access to additional translation documentation from this presentation. This session is not seen as a migration from using Oracle to MySQL, but as a guide to understand and leverage existing skills to develop and support MySQL applications.

  • Navigating mysql, the SQL*Plus of MySQL
  • PL/SQL Procedures/Functions/Triggers in a MySQL environment
  • Comparing the MySQL Information Schema with the Oracle Data Dictionary
  • Basic MySQL Administration Tasks
  • SQL Performance Analysis
  • Tools Translation: What to use instead of Toad, Raptor, and Oracle Designer
  • What alternatives exist to Application Express (HTMLDB), Oracle Reports, Oracle Discoverer
  • Tips & Tricks

Due to time limitations, some information referenced will be discussed in the MySQL for Oracle DBA's Session. This discussion will also reference information from the Sakila Sample Database discussed in an earlier session.
