Inside Falcon: MySQL's Newest Storage Engine

Jim Starkey, Senior Software Architect, MySQL AB

Track: Architecture and Technology
Date: Wednesday, April 25
Time: 3:35pm - 4:35pm
Location: Ballroom E

Falcon is the code name for MySQL's new high-performance transactional engine, designed for modern, large-memory SMP systems. Falcon's in-memory record cache handles update-intensive, heavy multiuser loads efficiently while a novel serial log minimizes the performance impact of ACID transactions.

This talk explains the way it works, why it works the way it does, and how you can use Falcon to improve application throughput. Anyone using MySQL today will enjoy Starkey's ideosyncratic view of the database industry and learn a lot about Falcon at the same time.
