Session

A Real-world MySQL Watch Dog: Step-by-Step Usage of the MySQL Monitoring and Advisory Service

Andy Bang, Director of MySQL Network, MySQL
Sehmuz Bayhan, Director of Database Systems, C/NET

Track: Security and Database Administration
Date: Tuesday, April 24
Time: 11:50am - 12:35pm
Location: Ballroom A

This session gives you an in-depth understanding of the architecture of the MySQL Network Monitoring and Advisory Service and each of its components. You will learn how to configure the system to monitor groups of servers both inside and outside your firewall, and hear some lessons learned from using the system in a real-world environment.

The MySQL Network Monitoring and Advisory Service provides you with a "Virtual DBA Assistant" to help enforce best practices. It comes pre-configured with a set of Advisors and Rules so you have immediate access to a variety of MySQL-recommended best practices.

But what about your own environment? How do you enforce your own best practices? This session will show you how to do just that -- you'll learn how to write new rules, debug them, and deploy custom data collection scripts that you can use in your own rules.
