John David Duncan ("J.D.") one day in 1991 wandered into a room where there was a Sun workstation and said "what kind of computer is THAT?" He's been working with unix machines ever since, as a systems administrator, web developer, and DBA. He joined MySQL AB in 2004 as a pre-sales support engineer based in San Francsico, and has worked on large projects using MySQL and MySQL Cluster around the world.
