Lance has over 12 years of experience in software. His responsibilities as VP of marketing include positioning, awareness, developer community support, and lead-generation. Lance most recently served as Vice President of Product Marketing for Business Objects (NASDAQ: BOBJ), where he lead the product marketing integration of the Crystal Decisions acquisition, and drove the most successful product launch in the company's history.
Prior to Business Objects, Lance ran product management and product marketing for Siebel Call Center, Siebel Systems' largest product line by revenue. He came to Siebel (NASDAQ: SEBL) through the acquisition of startup OnLink Technologies, which provided software for sales configuration and guided selling applications. That acquisition formed the Siebel Interactive Selling business unit, which quickly grew to more than $100M in annual revenues
Prior to Siebel Systems, Lance was Director of Product Marketing for Hyperion Essbase (NASDAQ: HYSL). He came to Hyperion through the merger with Arbor Software in 1998. Lance was part of the marketing team that helped define the OLAP market in its early days, and differentiate Essbase from its competitors at the time. Lance was at Arbor Software during the acquisition of Appsource Corporation, his first experience working with many of the team that eventually founded Pentaho in 2004.
Lance has a deeply technical background, having programmed in half a dozen computer languages through coursework in the U.C. Berkeley Computer Science program. His first job after getting his B.S. in engineering at Berkeley was as a Technical Analyst in Technical Support at Oracle, where he learned about relational database and data warehousing technologies.
