BOF

Open Source in Higher Education

Track: Birds-Of-A-Feather
Date: Tuesday, July 18
Time: 7:00pm - 8:00pm
Location: Bonzai II-III

Moderator: Jason Smith, University of La Verne

Summary: Many assume that colleges and universities accept and deploy Open Source solutions. While this may be the case with in some computer science and other science oriented departments, the proliferation of Open Source software in student labs, schools of business, the arts and humanities, and administrative computing has been minimal. Open Source can greatly benefit higher education at many levels but educators face challenges unique to their environment. This BOF intends to bring together those who face the challenges of introducing Open Source in an educational environment. This BOF might also be of interest to individuals who work in the public and non-profit sectors where organizational change is sluggish or complex.
