Advocacy-Case Study: TMTOWTG(T)T(LY)DI
John W. Adams, Consultant
Track: Perl Conference 5
Date: Wednesday, July 25
Time: 2:15pm
- 2:45pm
Location: Grande Ballroom C
There's More Than One Way To Get (Them) To (Let You) Do It is an exploration of effective Perl advocacy inside an organization through a study of the speaker's experiences in using (and getting to use) Perl. Topics to be covered include:
- Why it's best not to advocate the use of Perl, how to avoid such advocacy, and how, as a last resort, to advocate effectively.
- How not to be seen as a Perl dinosaur and avoiding the "me against the world" point of view.
- Why business managers like Perl better than technical managers, and how office politics, paperwork, and red tape favor Perl programming.
- The evils of the virtues of the Perl language and community.
