OS X: Moving Developers and Users to Open Source

Brett Halle, Director of Core OS Development, Apple

Track: Strategic Summit
Date: Thursday, July 26
Time: 1:45pm - 2:15pm
Location: Catalina Ballroom

Apple’s new operating system is a significant open source development, integrating the reliability of a multitasking operating system with the user experience for which Apple is so well-known. However, Apple has to persuade two groups to move to OS X: a development community as well as users. This talk will look at the problems that Apple is facing in making this move, as well as new opportunities that OS X is creating for its developers. Learn how Apple expects to succeed in bringing a UNIX-based operating system to the desktop.
