Electronic Program Guides--such as TV Guide(R)--are part of a heavily-
patented, multi-billion dollar industry. Hundreds of lawyers litigate
patent infringement suits to make sure that control of your
television (and other media) stays in carefully controlled middle boxes.
But, what if one were to route around these choke points and build
a distributed, open media guide? The NetTopBox project will use
a combination of policy and technology to try and start a little
disintermediation in this all-too-closed world. Come hear how in this session.
