Localization(l10n) is more than use utf8, make message catalogs, and find a group of translators; it involves creatively combining a wide range of tools, and catering them to the usage scenario at hand.
Based on the experience of translating Slashcode(Slash), RT(Mason), Freenetproject.org(TWiki), Sympa(Msgcat), Sql-Ledger and other projects to Chinese, this talk introduces the following topics:
- Time-saving approaches to hook l10n into an existing application
- Keep translations of an Open Source project up to date
- Multilingual site design -- a Wiki in four(and more) encodings
- L10n tips and tricks for various application frameworks
- How to choose from Locale::* modules, and their common pitfalls
